This aromatherapy scent is warm, balsamic,woodsy, and earthy. Sandalwood has a euphoric yet grounding psychological effect that promotes a sense of well being. A base note in perfumery.

There is very little true Mysore Sandalwood available in today's market. The Indian Government has severely limited the export of this oil until the trees have had a chance for regrowth.

Steam distilled from the heart wood. Sandalwood is one of the oldest known materials and dates back 4000 years. Highly valued as fragrance,incense ingredient and mainstay of yoga and meditation practices. A popular ingredient in cosmetics not only for it╣s skin care benefits but also for it╣s wonderful scent. Helpful for dry, chapped, cracked, aging skin.

Sandalwood Recipes

No Worry Blend Here is a blend to help you let go of those worries, calm stress, relieve tension, soothe and comfort. Very good for insomnia Do not use in a nebulizing type diffuser. Benzoin is quite thick.
Blend together Lavender 4 drops Benzoin 1 drop Sandalwood 1 drop Orange (Tangerine or Clementine)) 2-4 drops

Fireplace Oils When adding essential oils to fireplace logs use 1 drop of essential oil per log and only one log per fire. After applying the essential oil to the log be sure to let it sit for enough time that the essential oil soaks through the log. Some choices are Sandalwood, Frankincense, Myrrh, Cypress, and Cedarwood.

Try Sandalwood in a compress for throat discomforts. Eases coughs, bronchitis,laryngitis and other throat afflictions. Use as a compress. 6 drops to a bowl of water. Wet a cloth, squeeze out some of the water and apply for 15 min. Repeat.

Sandalwood and Frankincense help to relax by calming the mind. Excessive mental strain, for example: studying for an exam, can be eased by diffusing Frankincense perhaps with Bergamot to relax the nerves and uplift the spirit. Both Sandalwood and Frankincense blend well with the cirus oils.

Try essential oil of Sandalwood when you are feeling stressed and irritated. Warm and Woody, Sandalwood's effect is to calm and balance.Slowing us down,it helps to soothe and comfort. Excellent in a bath with Rose and Lavender. Use up to 8 drops total e/o blend per bath.

Insomnia-Anxiety Chamomile Roman 10 drops Sandalwood 15 drops Lemon 5 drops

Some essential oils help to protect the skin. Palmarosa, Sandalwood and Myrrh help the skin retain moisture. Try creating a blend in a hand or body lotion. Palmarosa, with it's regenerating effects is also ideal in facial blends

Because smell plays such a large role in how food tastes, overloading our sense of smell by inhaling the vapor of certain essential oils can suppress the desire to eat....says the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy. To suppress the appetite, it suggest oils such as Dill weed, Ginger, Cumin Seed, Lemon, Vanilla or Spearmint. Open a bottle and inhale the fragrance for 5 to 10 minutes. If you inhale for less than five minutes......you might stimulate the appetite. Change the scents daily! Other oils mentioned(from various sources) include; Grapefruit, Peppermint, Fennel, Clary Sage, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang

"I originally formulated these blends for myself over five years ago they have since become ones used by pregnant woman, midwives and doulas all over the country. " Belly Balm~ Stretch Mark Prevention Oil This oil feels so wonderful going on. It is smooth, moisturizing and it can really help with itching that often becomes present when our skin starts stretching. In a double boiler melt 1 cup coconut oil ╝ cup Cocoa Butter 1/8 cup Apricot, Almond or Grapeseed Oil 1/8-cup Kukui nut oil, Shea Butter or Mango Butter ( I love using Mango Butter) When the oils are all melted, allow it to cool and add the essential oils and pour into another container for the mixture to be stored in. 10-20 drops Sandalwood (try to find an ethical source) 15 drops Patchouli 15 Drops Sweet Orange You can try varying amounts of oils and types of essential oils but I love this combination. You can also use Rosewood, Rose, Lavender, Tangerine and Neroli. Massage all over thighs, breasts, stomach and everywhere else that needs nourishing and moisturizing. I have also used this on my face, living in the Green Mountains we get frigid winds and my fair skin often needs a protector.

If anxiety and fear are contributing to trouble falling asleep or perhaps you wake after a few hours and can't get back to sleep here are some tips. An aromatherapy bath before bed will begin the relaxation process. Be sure the water is warm not hot. Use any relaxing blend that appeals to you. Some oils to try are of course Lavender( not too much or it will have the opposite effect), Chamomile, Sandalwood, Rose, Ylang Ylang and Clary Sage. Use about 6 drops of essential oils total per bath. Use the same blend in your diffuser in the bedroom prior to going to sleep. You should have more undisturbed nights of sleep.

Scented Dreams and Rituals Happy incidents will occur if you dream of inhaling any perfume. Here is a bath recipe to precede ritual for cleansing, calming and centering. Mix together 10 drops each of Myrrh, Sandalwood, Frankincense,and Ylang Ylang. Add 6 drops of this mixture to a warm bath. Relax for 10 - 20 min. From The Aromatherapy Book by Jeanne Rose

Sprinkling An easy way to use essential oils and perfume your hair. Simply sprinkle a few drops in a bowl of warm water. Use as a final rinse on shampooed hair. Try 2-6 drops of Sandalwood or Frankincense.
