Aromatherapy Play Dough-Gluten Free

This is easy to make and fun for the kids!

Ingredients
¼ cup cornstarch
¼ cup brown rice flour
¼ cup salt
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
½ cup water
½ teaspoon essential oil
½- 1 teaspoon natural food coloring *(derived from vegetables and plants, and can be found at most Whole Foods and health food stores)
½- 1 teaspoon dried herbs or tea (optional)

Instructions
In a small saucepan add the rice flour, salt, cream of tartar, and food coloring on low heat.
Mix until ingredients form a ball.
Immediately remove from heat and mix in essential oil.
Knead in dried herbs or tea
Repeat recipe using different colors and essential oil scents and herbs.
Store in a plastic bag or airtight container.

Every home and office space could be improved by the inclusion of an essential oil diffuser. It takes a lot of plant material to make essential oil; it’s said that 4000 pounds of roses go into 1 lb of oil alone. Lavender, by comparison, takes 100 lbs of plant material to make 1 lb of oil. No matter which oil you choose, a lot of material has gone into it, and the process by which the oil is extracted is volatile and takes precision and skill to execute.

Aromatherapy has been used for thousands of years for a variety of purposes. The Greeks, Romans and Egyptians all used oils and aromatherapy for health and even simple enjoyment. With the advent of diffusers, more and more people are enjoying all of the benefits an essential oil has to offer. A diffuser can make your home smell wonderful, whether it’s room to room or whether you place a diffuser on each level. It can also disperse tiny droplets of your oil into the environment along with the water, and clean the air. Many people notice that the use of a diffuser with certain oils has lessened allergy symptoms and helped lower stress levels. Peppermint essential oil. You can also add a few drops to your bath, or inhale it from the bottle, or once a few drops are placed in a clean cloth. In facial creams it will help alleviate clogged pores and help to balance oily skin.

Tea tree essential oil. You’ve no doubt heard about the healing properties of tea tree oil. This oil can be applied directly to your skin without the use of a carrier oil to help heal and disinfect cuts and scrapes, and it goes straight to work attacking fungi, and, added to your household cleaner, will keep your home bacteria free. Some have noticed an improvement with their dandruff after regular applications to their scalp. Keep in mind that overuse of tea tree oil can leave you with dry, itchy skin.

Lavender essential oil. If you have a stocked cabinet of essential oils, I’m willing to bet that lavender is one of them. This lovely oil will make your home smell wonderful and it helps to relax and de stress those who inhale it. It’s the perfect way of helping you to fall asleep at night; added to your bath, your pillow, or in a diffuser by your bed. Lavender oil is also known to relieve nervous tension, treat respiratory problems, and disinfect scalp and your skin.

Lemon essential oil. If you’re looking for an aromatherapy scent that is uplifting, it’s hard to beat the smell of lemons. The scent alone makes us feel as if we’re in a clean environment, and this is indeed one of the best oils to add to your cleaning products for around the house.

Experiment with a variety of oils in your aromatherapy treatments. You can benefit from aromatherapy in many ways; whether you use a diffuser, apply oil directly to your skin (through the use of massage or just dabbing wrists and behind your ears) or apply droplets onto linens or as part of your recipe for household cleaners. Increase health, reduce allergy symptoms, clean using natural products, and balance your hormones and moods. Try mixing a few different oils and see what blends you can create; this is a great way to combine the benefits of several oils at once and create some new favourites!

Research has shown that cinnamon oil, clove oil, and eugenol are
effective snake repellents. Snakes will retreat when sprayed
directly with these oils and will exit cargo or other confined
spaces when these oils are introduced to the area.

No Bugs Picnic

Happy Fathers Day to all the great Dads out there!

This is a great tip! Give it a try if you’re heading out for a hike or picnic.

For a safe alternative to potentially harmful insecticides, place
three drops of peppermint, citronella, or eucalyptus essential oil on
your socks. Mosquitoes and other bugs hate the smell of these oils.
Don’t apply essential oils to your favorite socks, as they can
stain. Some eo’s may cause skin irritation, so avoid direct
contact. Reapply the eo every two to three hours.

Lavindin or Lavender essential oil

Today’s Tip

I just read this from an Ayurveda list I’m on.

Lavindin or Lavender essential oil, an anti-histamine for allergies which reside in the liver, cuts through cholesterol hormones that are stagnant in the liver. It is bitter for cutting through fats and unprocessed food. They recommend this recipe but I suggest diluting with a little carrier oil before using on the skin. Let me know what you think.
Dosage:
10 drops on the liver ~ AM & PM daily
Place in palm and rub onto right side at rib cage
Transdermal, goes directly into bloodstream via skin layers
